What is Grito Fest?
The Grito de Dolores could be said to be the war cry of the “War of Independence of Mexico from Spain”, which was pronounced by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, parish priest of Dolores, on September 16, 1810. The “Grito” of Hidalgo became the Cry of Independence of Mexico. That day, the president of the republic delivers a version of “El Grito” from the balcony of the National Palace in Mexico City, saying: “Long live Mexico! Live the independence! Long live the heroes!”
